"Christmas Angel"  Sue Matsuki

Sue Matuski photo/bio

Wrapped in tissue on a shelf
I wait almost a year
To be brought down and dusted off
the holidays are here
My wings are bent
some glitter’s gone
but every year it’s clear
They want me to adorn their tree
this family I hold dear
This family I hold dear

My view is quite an odd one
I see tinsel, balls and lights
And over the years I’ve also seen
my share of family fights
Who doesn’t like this one or that one?
Who gets the leg or wing?
Who doesn’t believe in Jesus’ birth?
what carol shall we sing?
What carol shall we sing?

    I am their Christmas Angel
I see all from high above
    I am their Christmas Angel
I watch over them with love

One year they all were children
Next year they seemed so grown
One year one was off to war
One year no one came home
One year there was just mom, no dad
One year there was no tree
But every year they take me out
And remember how it used to be

Wrapped in tissue on a shelf
I wait another a year
To be brought down and dusted off
the holidays are here
My wings still bent
more glitter’s gone
I look down from a new tree
It’s her son now
who with his kids
are looking up at me . . .

    I am their Christmas Angel
I see all from high above
    I am their Christmas Angel
I watch over them with love

And every year they take me out
And remember how it used to be
