Shining My Flashlight on the Moon

Released: 1997

THE PHYSICAL ALBUM IS OUT OF PRINT, BUT YOU CAN STILL GET THIS ALBUM AT iTUNES.

On this album the songs here are little stories that come from Christine's life. The title track came when she got lost on a country road in Vermont. "The Polka-Dancing Bus Driver" is the result of a music-filled ride to an airport. "Planet X" was inspired by an article she read about the plight of Pluto - is it or is it not a planet? The album begins looking at the moon, ends gazing up at the whole big sky, and in between looks at life as we know it on THIS planet.

Since this album was released, "Planet X" took on a life of its own and the lyrics of that song have just been published in the book THE PLUTO FILES written by Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of New York's Hayden Planetarium [it is written up in the 'Books' section of this website, with a link to Amazon if you want to expand your scientific knowledge]. A live performance of this song, introduced by Neil deGrasse Tyson himself, is on Christine's 23rd solo album, SPAGHETTIFICATION, which is still in print and is also available at iTUNES.

On this album is the BEST song to play when you are having the WORST day of your life -- "As Bad As It Gets." Really. There's also a video now for that song, with beautiful photography by Frank Siteman. Google that title and you should find it online.

Attention all surgeons: Also on this disk is the ever-popular "Music To Operate By" that has been played by a number of doctors while they operate. But be forewarned: The song contains the dreaded "M" word, so don't play til the patient is under.

Don't know what the "M" word is? Think about it.

"Lavin knows how to keep her audience guessing, thinking and laughing at the same time. On this recording, the guesswork is even more fun than usual." --Washington Post
