Words and Music by Christine Lavin
Recorded live in the World Cafe Studio at WXPN, Philadelphia PA
on June 20 1999 by Kevin McCaffrey with host Gene Shay

She lost her passion for him
So many years ago
If you asked her why she married him
She'd say "I don't know"
She looks out the window
At the Children in the yard
Though she wouldn't trade them for anything
That feeling only goes so far

She never gets too excited
Never gets that blue
She says "This is my life
Why fight it?"
And just keeps pushing through

And she loses herself in novels
Loses herself in dreams
Loses herself in Chocolate Cake
And low fat Ice Cream
And she wonders where this road is leading
It never was her plan
To simply be an extension of this man

This man's a good provider
And Father to the kids
She'd never think of leaving him
Where would she go if she did?
The unhappiness she lives with
is familiar, but it's cold
Slowly squeezing life out of her
with it's strangle hold

She never gets too excited
Never gets that blue
"This is my life
Why fight it?"
And just keeps pushing through

And she loses herself in novels
Loses herself in dreams
Loses herself in Chocolate Cake
And no fat Ice Cream
And she wonders where this road is leading
It never was her plan
To simply be an extension of this man

This man who's lost his passion for her
So many years ago
If you asked him why he married her
He'd say "I don't know"
He looks out the window
At the Children in the yard
Though he wouldn't trade them for anything
That feeling only goes so far

They never get too excited
Never get that blue
They say "This is life
Why fight it?"
And just keep pushing through
