Isn't This Just Like Empty-Vee?

Quick! Turn on your TV.
It doesn't matter what station.
Just turn it on and turn down the sound.
Ok, now look at the screen,
And listen to the music.
When you hear clapping
That means change the channel.
Ok, you ready? Here we go.

Isn't this just like MTV?
What you see on the screen does not relate to me
And what I'm singing about is something you can't see
Isn't this just like MTV?
(Isn't this just like MTV?)

Isn't this avant gard?
Isn't this hip?
To watch me shakin' my bootie
And watch me move my lips
To the prerecorded sound
Of some bad drug trip
Isn't this avant garde?
Isn't this hip?
(Isn't this avant garde? Isn't this hip?)

If God wanted you to listen with your ears
He would not have invented eyes
Watch Mick Jagger disappear
Watch Stevie Nicks materialize

Ain't this intellectual?
Ain't this smart?
Ain't this something you might, even would call art?
It may bypass the brain
And bypass the heart
But ain't this intellectual?
Ain't this smart?
(Ain't this intellectual? Ain't this smart?)

Isn't this just like MTV?
When you run out of verses you change the key
Which is often times mistaken for creativity
Isn't this just like
Isn't this just like
Isn't this just like
MTV - Empty - V

I wrote this back in the mid-1980s when Mtv was brand new.  Now they don't even show videos anymore.  Time keeps on slipping . . . into the future . . .
